President Trump is suggesting a new way to push Mexico to keep migrants from crossing illegally into the U.S. Instead of closing the southern border, the president is now ready to threat Mexico with a tariff on its auto exports.

"Before we close the border, we put the tariffs on the cars. I don't think we will ever have to close the border because the penalty of tariffs on cars coming into the United States from Mexico at 25% will be massive."

He spoke at a meeting with China's vice premiere and says he's optimistic that the 2 countries will negotiate a new trade deal.

"Epic deal, historic if it happens."

 

The House has reauthrized the law that helps victims of domestic and sexual violence but some Republican law-makers object because it will allow authorities to take away guns from violent offenders even if they're not victim's spouse. Michigan Democrats Debbie Dingell defends the measure.

"We're not trying to take away people's due process. If someone's not allowed to have a gun, we're simply closing a loophole."

That measure now heads to the Senate.

 

The suspect in a fatal shooting of Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle was in court today. He pleaded not guilty and is being held on 5 million dollars bail.

 

Police in Mandan North Dakota say they've detained a person of interest in the killings of 4 people at a property management office.

 

There's a new place that recreational pot is allowed. The U.S. territory of Guam in the Pacific has approved use of marijuana.

 

So maybe if your drinks a week aren't good for your health after all. A new study out of China finds that moderate drinking raises the risk of high blood pressure and strokes.

 

Stocks closed mixed today. The Dow was up 166 pts. The Nasdaq fell 4. This is AP Radio News.

 

The family of a 24-year-old american woman killed in the Ethiopian crash of a Boeing 737 Max is suing Boeing and Federal Aviation authorities.Samya Stumo's father Michael says there should not happen to anyone again.

"I stood on that Ethiopoan agricultural field with my family, looking at the crater, feeling her."

Samya Stumo is the great niece of Consumer Advocates, Ralph Nader.

"An aircraft manufacturer no matter what its passed safety records is not allowed two or more free disasters."

Boeing is facing several other suits claiming the flight control system was defective and that Boeing failed to warn air lines about it or fully train pilots. I'm Ed Donahue.
