Wallstreet is having a trouble, handling the U.S.-China trade war at the latest move by China has investors in a selling mood. The AP's Sagar Meghani has the story.
Starting June 1st, the Beijing says it will add tariffs up to 25% on some American goods covering thousands of products fro batteries to spinachi to coffee. It's retalitation for the U.S. boosting duties on some Chinese imports. The trade battle has spooked the investors and the DOW's been down more than 600 pts today. President Trump continues insisting the tariffs on Chinese goods do not hurt American consumers which economists like Bankrate.com's Mark Hamrick say just is not true.
"There're essentially 2 entities with end up paying with costs of tariffs in the United States and that is business and consumers."
President's warning China will be hurt very badly if they can not agree on a trade deal. Sagar Meghani, Washington.
Police around Miami are looking for connections between a series of shootings that killed the Chicago rapper, wounded another rapper's girlfriend left bystanders dead and injured a little boy. One of the shootings was near one of President Trump's resorts in Florida that left one person dead, 2 others injured. This is Miami Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta.
"During the initial chaos where the shots were fired and this one female was struck in the upper extremity, another male was killed inside the car across the street."
2 Saudi oil tankers in a Norwegian flagged vessel were damaged in what Gulf officials describe as a sabotage attack off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. The U.S. issued a new warning to sailors.
A divided Supreme Court ruled an anti-trust lawsuit can move forward that claims Apple unfairly monopolized the market for sale of Iphone apps. Apple chrages a 30% commission to software developers whose apps are sold on the Istore. Iphone users must buy apps from Apple appstore as well. This is AP Radio News.
Safety regulators want to know if General Motors's recall went far enough.
The National Highway Traffic Safety administration is trying to determine whether GM's recall should have been expanded to include 115,000 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups from the 2015 model year. The agency says it has received about 50 complaints of failures from owners of trucks that weren't included in the 2016 recall. The failures occured in a variety of conditions but no crashes or injuries have reported. GM says it's cooperating with safety regulators in conducting its own investigation. I'm Mike Hempen.
Kenneth T. Hicks is expected to plead guilty in Richmond, Va today in ccocaine conspiracy case. A judge approved a plan to get him to court. Hicks weighs about 900lbs. The plan involves cutting through a wall bracing his home attached to a mobile home and cutting down some trees. I'm Ed Donahue. AP Radio News.
